the roof is on fire

today in sunday school, elise learned about pentecost and made a crown with flames. as per usual, i'm "that" mom...running in late to grab her and go (i have exactly 30 seconds between choir warm-up and church to move the girls around...i'd really hate to see what i must look like, running about, choir robes flapping...but i digress). so as we are running upstairs to grab kaely, i say to elise "nice crown!" and she says "it isn't a crown...it's a flame hat!" it's really hard to run upstairs when you are laughing...a lot.
i need to get a picture of the flame hat...

green eggs and hahm

elise is reading now and i am so thrilled. tonight, before bed, she was reading "green eggs and ham" by dr. seuss. about halfway through the book, she started saying "hahm" instead of ham...because that's how "he says it in the movie". but my favorite part was the page where the guy is underwater. elise read that part in a different voice, because "he is under the water, so i am talking like you would under the water".
thank you elise.

one lilli is enough!

when i picked up the girls after choir practice this evening, cathy gave me this lillian cut-out and explained that they had used it during the ministry fair to highlight the awesome things that the children do...like putting babies into baskets (moses auditions?). cathy also said that this picture of lillian will be on the children's ministry brochure. kinda neat i think...

arrrrrr matey!

last weekend melinda long was in town, signing copies of her newest children's book "pirates don't change diapers". even though i wasn't feeling that great and i didn't even have the girls, i decided to go.
kaely met melinda long a couple of years ago and we have a signed copy of "how i became a pirate",
so i couldn't pass up the opportunity to add to our collection :)

the signing was at a local bookstore (park road bookstore), not one of the huge chains and it is a really neat place. i bought the pirate book straight away and then wandered a bit. i enjoyed the mystery section.and then i discovered that dave barry...yes! dave barry!...has written a couple of children's novels. we always knew when someone in the house was reading his column in the miami herald (the phrase "i laughed till i cried" applies here)...so anything written by him must be good. his series might also solve my "what can kaely read" dilemma for the short term. luckily, it was time for the signing to begin, or who knows how many books i would have walked out of there carrying!

ms. long signed everyone's copy of the book and then she read the book (and it is every bit as awesome as the first). after she read, she signed posters from the publisher.if you look next to the water bottle, that is the picture of kaely with the first book. the whole thing was just a really neat experience! i can't wait until the next book comes out! in the meantime, i'm going to try to get my hands on some of her other titles :)
